Day One

Woohoo - today is the first day of my training programme...and it's rest day. Not sure whether I'm happy about that or not. It's great because it means I get to put off the inevitable action of actually jogging for one more day, but it doesn't have the "wahey, you're starting something new and exciting today!" feel to it that would've been nice. It's also super sunny, so would've been nice to go out in the sunnyshine. I think I'll just go out for a walk instead :)

Went to church for the first time in weeks yesterday, which was quite inspiring.  One of the guys at my church at uni is doing the London marathon next week - super hardcore! So methinks I'll be scrounging some tips from him over the next couple of months!

To finish, I shall post a Family Guy video. A new season is airing on BBC3 over here and so now everybody is talking about the bird!

Silly old bear

Exercise
Well, I have just done a very silly thing.
Because I'm finding it difficult to motivate myself to exercise when I'm at uni, I've signed up for a half marathon in September.
Crapping myself!!

Will keep you updated once I start training.
Am doing a 5k in June which is my super mini starter race.
Argh.
Argh, I say!

I walked up a really big hill today! But it wasn't really as fulfilling as I expected :( But hopefully it means that the Muller Rice I've just eated won't make my wobbly bits any more wobbly!

So, now is the run up to the Fortnight of Dooooooooom, during which I have 6 pieces of coursework to hand in, a presentation to present and two exams. Eeeeps. So yes, I put in some library time this evening. And i think I'll have to do the same tomorrow evening. And the one after that. And the one after that...right up until the FoD begins. *le sigh* Who knows when I'll get to see my boy :(

Now I need bed, because I want to try walk the stoopid hill again tomorrow, as well as use my brain. Challenge!

I'll leave you with this video game/book related entry from Print Is Dead, my new favourite blog.

I've managed to do absolutely nothing today. Well, that's not quite true. I finished watching Season 1 of Chuck, and watched the new episodes or Reaper and NCIS. I suppose I really mean that I did nothing constructive.
Yesterday, however, I made a bow and arrows, and they worked!! It was a St George's Day social with all of Tom's forces people and the theme was Knights and Dames. I obviously didn't want to go as a Dame because, well, that would involve wearing a dress. And when all of the other girls are in the Army or RAF or Navy and work out muchly then my flabby arms and tummy do not want to be on show. So I went as an archer. I think I looked pretty cool. There are no picces or I'd post them :( But yes, I made my own weaponry, and was armed with bow, arrows and staff. Turns out the bow worked, and so Tom stole it from me early in the evening to pop all of the balloons and attack the other Knights.
Was all good fun - there was free cider, wine and lager (God bless Her Majesty for her subsidising the Forces!) and much sword play.

Hopefully I'll make up for my laziness today by spending tomorrow in the liberry, but to be honest I think it all depends on the weather. If it's not bright shiney sunshine at 8am tomorrow then I don't really see me getting out of bed. So much for that 1st...methinks a 2:2 is on the cards :S

Darn RSS!
Darn blogs!
Darn interesting information about publishing!

The darndest thing of all is when all of the above come together and take over my life. Over the last couple of weeks I've discovered about 5 new blogs written by (mostly) professional publishy type peoples, and my toolbar is now full of RSS links to them. And damn is it distracting me from real life! What I think is bugging me most is that I'm finding out all of this interesting stuff about Penguin and eBooks and digitisation and what's going on it the industry, but none of it is actually helpful to my degree. How can this be? It makes me feel a bit wibbly about the degree, if I'm honest.

In other news: Rock Night at tonight :) Been a long time since there's been one and I've missled them and the crazy dancing they encourage.
Although I think I might be roped into trying my hand at archery this afternoon, so maybes I'll be too busy being impaled by my own arrows to go :S

Memey meme meme

My first post in a gajillion million years* and it's a meme! Sheesh!
Wasn't planning on doing this, but I've realised that I've run out of things to clean/tidy/comment on/reply to and the only thing left now between me and starting exam revision is this meme.

The Album-Cover Meme.
1) Go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Random
The article title is the name of your band.

2) Go to http://www.quotationspage.com/random.php3
The final words of the last quote on your page are the title of your album.

3) Go to http://www.flickr.com/explore/interesting/7days/
The FOURTH image on the page is your album cover. You can choose to go to http://www.flickr.com/groups/flickrsocial/pool/ if you prefer a more dynamic, less philosophical cover.

4) Design your cover. Layout and presentation are up to you.

5) Post your cover, along with these instructions. In the comments your friends will tell you what kind of music you play and the name of the album's single.

And here be the result:

The album "You Have The Whole Government Working For You" by the upcoming band "Volcanoes in Taiwan".

I cheated slightly, as the actual Wiki article was "List Of..." but that just sounded silly...ahem.

So, what kind of band does this look like? What will be the name of their hugelyuccessful hit single? Make it good people, it's my back up plan if the Publishing degree doesn't work out :P

Ooo, I have Season One of Farscape to watch. Yaay! James has brought Seasons One and Two for me to watch this term. Seems good so far. Then again, Andromeda seemed good at the beginning and then went all weirdass on me at Season Four.

Saw the first episode of Season Four of SGA. Not amazing, but good. I don't really like the 'big' storylines. I prefer the self-contained, character driven eps, but I suppose they have to hav some action every now and again.

Reregistered at uni today, which took much less time than I expected. Walked down with Laura, then Mike caught us up. Saw Helen while I was in there and we've arranged to go do the pub quiz at The Griffin tonight. Probably be uber difficult and we won't score any points, but it's the competing not the winning that counts (honest).

My housemates hav all moved back in today, which is a bit weird after having the house to myself for 3 weeks. I feel very invaded! I'm sure that feeling will pass, especially once term starts properly and I'm not in the house as much.

Went out last night, unexpectedly. James text to see if I wanted to go to The Noodle Bar with some peoples, and that turnen into going to The Orange Tree and Valkeries. It was uusually quiet in the bars considering it was a Saturday Night in Fresher's Week. Also, I found out that for my birthday, the guys had phoned round pretty much everyone they know who I know to see if they cold get together enough money to get me a ticket for Leeds Festival! They managed to get the fundage, but unfortunately by the time they did the tickets had sold out :( But yaay, my friends are awesome :D

Some of you may have noticed that instead of posting a critique of NCIS, a SGA meme appeared on my LJ. *sigh* Yeah, that may have been a sign that my day didn't really go as planned yesterday. I did get some things done though. My list now looks like this:
  • Go to library and fill in claim form
  • Go to Sainsburys and buy essential vittals
  • Return stoopid Philips router to PC World
  • Unpack my crap from the weekend
  • Washing
  • Figure out how to set the heating clock
  • Defrag hard drives
  • Hoover
  • Empty bins
Sorting out all the crap on my computer is taking waay longer than I expected, but it's not really causing any problems so it doesn't matter too much. I really need to return the Router. I'm going to put off filling in my claim form since I'm working at the library again on Friday. I'm thinking I can kill two birds with one stone (and save me an hour of walking) if I wait and put all my hours on one claim form.

The weather is just bleurgh. All coldand grey and yuck. It just makes me feel like crawling into bed and reading rather than doing active, useful things. I suppose the fact that I've been eating rubbish and not drinking much water doesn't help. I ned a bit of a boost but I'm not sure how to go about it. Hmph.

Anyways, I did watch NCIS last night. I also watched Boston Legal. Here be what I thought:

It's all about CSI now. Will Sara live? (Basically, did Georgia sign a contract and stop being such a greedy moo?!) Oooo, 'tis exciting!

I'm an addict. So shoot me :P

Who's your 'background' SGA guy?

You prefer Radek Zelenka. Smart, to the degree of genius yet completely lacking in ego or false pride. Most times, he can even get Rodney to slow down and see sense. Funny. Sexy. Charming. Attentive. A reluctant hero, yet one nonetheless.

Righty ho. I have a list of things to do today. It looks like this:

  • Go to library and fill in claim form
  • Go to Sainsburys and buy essential vittals
  • Return stoopid Philips router to PC World
  • Unpack my crap from the weekend
  • Washing
  • Figure out how to set the heating clock
  • Defrag hard drives
  • Hoover
  • Empty bins
It should be clear to all of you that this is not a list of things that I would usually choose to do during one of my last days off. However, these things must be done. And it is already 1pm. Not good. There is hope though.
The new series of NCIS started last night. I am using S05E01 as motivation to complete my list, for if I do so before 6pm then I am going to sit down with beans on toast ('cause I'm classy like that) and watch S05E01. I may then post my comments of S05E01 here.

Do we think I can accomlish this? No, neither do I, but I am sure as hell going to try!

I really need my own theme song for moments like this. I really feel it would help.

Memey goodness

I be reconnected! Well...mostly. It keeps randomly disconnecting itself for a reason I can't fathom, but I don't care too much at this point.
And the first thing I shall do is a meme. Check me.
From...well, most peoples on my F-List:

1. Go to careercruising.com
2. Put in Username: nycareers, Password: landmark.
3. Take their "Career Matchmaker" questions.
4. Post the top 10 results. (Or however many results you want)

My results being mostly boringness...go me:

1. Business Systems Analyst
2. Librarian
3. Computer Network Specialist
4. Web Developer
5. Data Entry Clerk
6. Library Technician
7. Administrative Assistant
8. Database Developer
9. Researcher
10. Computer Programmer

And here are some randoms ones that amused me:

15. Pest Controller
30. Venture Capitalist
34. Stuntperson
40. Bus Driver

Woohoo, a distracting meme...

Comment:
And I will name you 3 interests from your list, and 3 userpics and you explain them in your own post asking the same of your flisters.

As chosen by [info]rilla06:

Calvin & Hobbes
Ahhh, the wonderful world of Calvin & Hobbes. If anyone doesn't know, this is a comic strip by Bil Watterson about a young boy (Calvin) and his soft toy tiger (Hobbes). In Cavin's eyes, Hobbes is a fully functioning real life tiger (complete with tiger size appetite!), and the strip is about their adventures in the world of Calvin's overactive imagination. My parents got me hooked onto this when I was about 13 or 14 - probably when I was too young to fully appreciate the humour - and I've been a fully fledged fan ever since. Unfortunately I don't have any of the books with me to scan in some strips, but I found dailies on ze interweb!! Clicky clicky.

Hair
This sounds an odd interest when you just put 'Hair'!! I just like styles, colours etc. I change my hair aaalll the time. At the moment it's really short and a gingery colour (I have recently been described as Anne Robinson. Eeek!), but it's also been thigh length, shoulder lenth, curly, chin bobbed, brown, green, purple, pink, black/blue...you get the idea :)  I'm also a victim of hair envy especially when the cybergoffs are about!

Teddy Bears
I guess this is just more of a squeeing like than 'interest' exactly. Really though, how can you not like teddy bears?! They're so cute and cuddly wuddly and make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside :D

Abby and McGee!!
*waves McAbby flag*
Ok peoples, my secret fandom that I keep locked away is NCIS. I want to marry McGee and I want to be Abby. I also want Gibbs to be my second dad, Ducky to be my lecturer and Ziva to be my big sis...and to join a real Navy team as a geeky sidekick information officer. Yes, I am an absolute crazy loon of a fan.
*takes yet another a moment to sigh at the hawt geekiness that is McGee*
So yes, I'm a McAbby shipper and make no mistake about it! They should be together and make sweet nerdy lurve.
I rarely talk about NCIS though because I just get too carried away. Ahem.

Ah good 'ole Fraser. I adore Due South. It was such a good series. Even when real Ray left and crappy Ray took over it was still good. I just like this icon because of the irony. Teedle heedle. And Fraser is rather yummy (of course).

I realise that I'm the only person on the planet who prefers Matthew MacFayden as Mr Darcy, but I can't help it! He really is good in other things...honest. So yeah, this is my small stand against all the other Mr Darcy's out there.
*hides from the 2005-film version h8ters*

Step 1: Put your Media player on random.
Step 2: Post the first line(s) of the first 25 songs that play, no matter how embarrassing the song.
Step 3: Let everyone you know guess what song and artist the lines come from.
Step 4: No cheating!
(I had to cheat a teensy bit because some of the songs to come up were instrumental only. Ooops!)

1. Where are we? What the hell is going on?

2. Out of the moonlight in the month of May, this ship would take her last breath

3. Turn it up I never wanna go home, I only wanna be part of your break down

4. We're caught in a trap, I can't walk out, because I love you too much baby

5. I'm not alone 'cause the TV's on, yeah

6. I met her in a club down in old soho, where you drink champagne and it tastes just like cherry cola

7. It's kinda hard to wear high heels, or slip on banana peels. How does she get in and out of tubs? (Kudos to you if you get this one!)

8. I am the son, and the heir, of a shyness that is criminally vulgar

9. I find a map and draw a straight line, over rivers, farms and state lines

10. [spoken]Hey Janet...I've got something to say...I really love the skillful way, you beat the other girls to the bride's bouquet

11. Kicking pigeons in the park we had to stop 'cause it got dark

12. Richard Wagner's letters to his lover Matilda were a mess

13.There were things the used to make me smile, one of them was you for just a little while

14. I know you can't work in fast food all your life but don't sign that paper tonight, she said

15. Meet me in outerspace, we could spend the night watch the earth come up

16. Oh, my mama told me, 'cause she said she learned the hard way

17.I once had a girlfriend but then once day she dumped me and everywhere I go people would ask me where she was

18. You're the one that makes my day a dream come true

19. Are we growing up or just going down, it's just a matter of time until we're all found out

20. Out amongst the stars I sail, way beyond the moon

21. What the hell are you standing there for expecting me to help you when I'm down myself

22. Here I lay, still and breathless, just like always

23. I should know who I am by now, I walk the record stand somehow

24. I drink good coffee every morning, comes from a place that's far away

25. I love you through sparks and shining dragons, I do, now there's poetry in an empty coke can

Happy guessing! I think some of them are a bit random, and some of them are fast so the lyrics might be a bit dodgy!!

While waiting for The Usual Suspects to start and my pizza to cook I thought I'd post up my reading list for 2007. (In no particular order)

Please feel free to make recommendations for additions or subtractions. I want a lengthy list as I'm not going to struggle through something I'm not enjoying and will need fallbacks. Also, I don't know how many I'll actually be able to get hold of!

*sigh*

Another day of potential contructiveness has been ruined by this bleeping illness! I had an itinerary and everything! I was going to go into town, to the library to do some research and extend my essay plan, finish unpacking and go food shopping. Now I don't feel much like leaving the house. I can probably do some of the research from here, and hopefully if I feel better tonight I'll go food shopping since the shop's only round the corner. So, my activities for the day will probably be computer based (for a change!). I am endeavouring to:

1. De-friend and make public some of my LJ entries (to be more sociable!);

2. Sort out my iTunes because nothing is properly named or labelled on there;

3. Look up some journals to read in the library when I feel well enough to go there;

4. Repaint my nails because the chipping of my current nail varnish has become way out of hand;

5. Possibly do some unpacking if I feel up to it;

6. Drink lots of tea.

I feel this to be a reasonable list considering my grogginess :) Hopefully the monotony of some of the tasks will soothe me!

Hmph. I hate packing! It always seems to take so looong and I can never decide what to take and what to leave and I get so ratty! I just wish you could miss out the packing and journey when moving! So, yeah, going back to Luff tomorrow. Feel really bad because I've been a bit tetchy with my Mother and Father because I've been stressed with packing and I hate just waiting to go. Am ready to get back though.

Had a really nice lunch with Rachel today at Teesside Park. We went to TGI Friday which was exciting since I've never been there(but a bit expensive!). We chatted for ages and caught up with everything. Her and Nick are looking at houses this week. I saw the specs and they all look really nice. Rach's parents are giving them £10,000 for a mortgage from the profit they made when they sold their house recently (woah!). Then we went into Middlesbrough and spent money - eeps! Used the last of my Christmas money on a funky fluffy pink rug for my room, a couple of t-shirts, some hair dye and some posh perfume that was reduced in the sales.

Went to the hairdressers the other day and had the worse hair cut I can ever remember. Well, just the fringe really. But she did ruin it. I got home and had to cut it myself to try and make it look decent. It was wonky and had big gaps in it, she's thinned it out too much...just....gargh! I have no idea why she did it either because all I asked for was a trim. Grrrr. Stupid fake hairdresser. Hopefully it won't take too long for it to grow into something bearable.

Right then, off to bed for me as I've got an early start tomorrow.

I just couldn't resist...
